laymen does not provide medical advice. Nothing on this site — not the manifesto, not the product descriptions, not the science we reference, not any future report or insight the product generates — is a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Full stop.
What this site is
laymen.com is an informational and waitlist site for a personal genomics product under development. The content here describes the science and technology we believe in, the product we are building, and the philosophy behind it. It is intended to help you understand what laymen is, not to tell you what to do about your health.
What this site is not
Nothing on this site — and nothing we will communicate to you before you speak to a qualified clinician — should be treated as:
- A diagnosis of any disease or condition.
- A recommended course of treatment.
- Medical, clinical, or therapeutic advice of any kind.
- A second opinion on a diagnosis you have already received.
- A reason to start, stop, or change any medication or treatment without first consulting your physician.
Always talk to your doctor
Always seek the advice of your physician, a licensed specialist, or another qualified healthcare provider with any questions you have about a medical condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read on this site, in any email we send you, or in any content generated by the laymen product.
In an emergency
If you are experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 immediately or go to the nearest emergency room. Do not rely on this site, any app, or any AI-generated content in an emergency. laymen cannot contact emergency services on your behalf.
About the future laymen product
This section describes how the laymen product is intended to work when it launches. It does not describe an existing service.
When the laymen product launches, it will generate genomic interpretations, health insights, and personalized information based on your genetic data, lab results, and other inputs. That output will be for informational purposes only and subject to the following limitations:
- Not FDA-cleared or FDA-approved as a medical device unless explicitly and specifically stated in the product at the time of use.
- Not intended to detect, diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or health condition.
- Not a replacement for clinical genetic counseling, which involves a licensed professional reviewing your results in the context of your personal and family history.
- Based on the current scientific literature, which evolves. An interpretation accurate today may be revised or overturned as new research is published. We will update interpretations as the science changes, but there will always be a lag.
Genetic associations are probabilistic, not deterministic. A variant associated with elevated risk does not mean you will develop a condition. A variant not associated with a condition does not mean you are safe from it. Genetics is one input among many.
Reliance at your own risk
You use this site and, when available, the laymen product entirely at your own risk. Laymen Inc. is not liable for any health decision you make based on content from this site or from the product. Decisions about your health belong to you and your clinicians.
